I recently shared a post asking for anyone who would be interested in doing market research with me for my new business, Embody Your Element. The best term I’ve found to describe what I do is image consultant and stylist. But it’s really beyond that.
I take clients on a journey to discover their core element – earth, fire, water, or air – and what colors are in alignment with their element. It’s a deep dive into their core characteristics and who they were born to be in this life. The process is based on outward things, however it typically involves an intense look at internal things as well.
We all have all of the characteristics, since we’re all human. (Well, most of us anyway.) However, we have one core element and those character traits are stronger in us than others. It’s not as easy as identifying which character traits seem to fit best, though.
That’s because throughout life we go through things, such as traumas, that cause us to react and alter how we show up. Even if these things invoke the slightest change, it can show up in a big way.
I’ll share a little bit of my story to explain further. Nearly two years ago I was introduced to Patsy, an image consultant and stylist, at a speaker’s retreat. “She’s amazing and she’ll change your life,” they said. Right away, I thought I don’t have to do anything!
This happened to be the month after my debut novel, The Rideshare Chronicles: Volume I, was released. I figured it wouldn’t hurt for a professional to tell me the best things to wear for headshots, publicity stuff, or whatever. But I wasn’t changing anything in my life.
She typed me as a fire. The color palette is the fall colors. Greens, browns, burnt orange, etc. I didn’t like those colors and I didn’t want to wear those colors. In fact, I didn’t feel like I was a fire. That didn’t seem to fit who I thought I was. I wasn’t decisive or an action taker.
I went along with it and wore the colors she suggested for a few days only to prove her wrong. What would be the harm in that?
Well, that daring, rebellious, let me prove you wrong attitude is exactly a fire trait. I didn’t realize that at the time. When I wore what she suggested, I was received differently. There was a shift. Inside of me and around me.
Looking back, it’s kind of funny. I set out to prove her wrong, only to prove her right. In the process, I gave myself permission to reconnect with who I actually am. I no longer had to pretend or hide myself to survive or make life easier. Instead, I stepped into my element and my power and decided to never go back.
The experience was so powerful that I hired her to type and work with my mother as well. I didn’t share that information with my mom at first, but encouraged her to get on a call and listen to the consultant. Reluctantly, and after a lot of hoopla of “I’m busy,” or “Maybe when I lose some of this weight,” she finally got on the call.
She was still a little resistant, until she was told, “Well, Amy already paid for it, so what do you have to lose?”
Guess what? She had a similar experience. When she embodied her element and stepped into it, she released some old habits and started to shine in a whole new way. In fact, the Founder and President of the company she works with gave her an incredible compliment during an interview one day, after over 15 years of being in the same space.
Watching friends and colleagues go through this same wonderful and powerful upleveling made me want to help share it with others. So, earlier this year I was certified to type in the elements, as well.
And here we are!
Do you want to know more? Or maybe you think I’m a little crazy? Either way, I believe that color has energy and would love to share more with you if you’re interested!
