I may or may not have a shopping habit. My closets (yes, multiple) are definitely filled with more than any one person needs. However, there are several parts of my life that require a different wardrobe.
I wouldn’t speak on professional stages in the same outfit I’d ride my motorcycles in, go to a concert in, or wherever else. Sure, some of this is simply my preference because I love to shop. And I enjoy clothes and shoes. (You can never have too many shoes.)
In a way, it makes sense that part of my “job” now is to shop for people, or show them how to shop for themselves to achieve a look they never even dreamed of. I truthfully never saw this coming, or even dreamed of it. But I’m so fulfilled now that I’m here.
Have you ever watched someone see themselves in a new light? Either because they did something they’ve never done or perhaps they got a new haircut or outfit? It’s quite incredible. Actually, it gives me the chills in the best of ways.
I love to see someone light up when they see a spark of their own beauty in a way that’s foreign to them. Maybe they try on an outfit they would have never thought to put on their body because they didn’t think they could pull it off.
Guess what? It’s FREE to try on clothes! That’s one of my shopping mottos.
If something is in your element and size, try it on! What’s the worst that can happen? It might not fit your body in a way that’s comfortable or flattering? On the other hand, what if it looks amazing on you? And even better, what if you feel incredible wearing it?
I didn’t always think like this. And just trying on things like that wasn’t always easy for me. During my first shopping trip with my mentor, they brought me several dresses I’d never have thought to try on. I had the misconception that a mermaid cut gown would look awful on me.
Guess what? I tried on every dress they brought to me. Not all of them worked. But the mermaid style did. I ended up purchasing it for a fancy dinner that weekend. Now that dress serves as a monumental piece for me. For one thing, I rocked it and learned that it’s beneficial to try on new cuts or styles once in a while. But I also have incredible memories walking down Bourbon Street in that ball gown with several peers.
My entire wardrobe makes me feel good now, even though most of it consists of colors or styles I wouldn’t have picked out before. I urge my clients to try on new things. They are under no obligation to get them or wear them, ever.
The thing is, once I started wearing different colors, the colors in my element, I realized how much better I felt. Things started coming together in a variety of areas of my life. Overall, I feel more at home in my own skin than I ever have before.
I no longer have this internal battle of who I am, who I’m supposed to be, who people see me as, and why can’t I be different. That is my hope for everyone I work with (IF they desire it). I want you to feel at home in your own body and appreciate the way you look.
Embodying your element means giving yourself permission to be exactly who you were born to be, before the world or anyone else told you who you should be. There is only one you in this world, and I’d love to discover and celebrate who you are!
