It seems like a silly question. It’s not like we can make ourselves invisible, right? Actually, most of us do hide in plain sight almost every day. People see us, but they don’t see US. Meaning who we are, our actual core and being.
Let me explain… I believe in energy. The energy of all living things. The energy of our moods. And everything else around us. I believe that color, among other things, affects our energy. As a matter of fact, I’m not the only one. Think about all the millions of dollars spent in advertising, which includes the combination of colors companies use for their logos and ad campaigns.
Color stimulates our brains. It sends us messages that we don’t realize we’re receiving. In February of 2021 I met an image consultant who explained how the colors of the clothes we wear send a message to those we come into contact with.
She asked me some questions, then did a few things and told me that my element and color palette is FIRE. (She uses the elements, earth, water, air and fire which do correlate with the old school seasons color palettes, though there is more to this.)
I show up best in the Fire/Fall color palette. I thought she was wrong. To be blunt, I thought she was full of crap. I didn’t think I aligned with the fire element characteristics at all. I had been living and showing up as a water. Plus, my entire wardrobe was black and grey. I didn’t want to give that up.
I learned that water is my secondary, but that’s how I survived a lot of the traumas in my life. I adapted the characteristics that helped me do that. My mom shared a few stories with me from when I was younger that showed more fire characteristics. She also shared some traumatic events that changed me and how I showed up.
I decided to give the image consultant a chance and wear the colors she suggested. Simply changing my top and wearing the lip color she suggested elicited compliments, responses, and reactions I didn’t expect from colleagues who had no idea what was happening behind the scenes.
My little experiment backfired on me, because she was right. (I do NOT like being wrong.) In fact, she’s suggested a few different items that I thought “no way” but when I put them on, my eyes light up. The fire in me still wants to prove her wrong, but it hasn’t happened yet!
I was so impressed I hired her to consult with my mom as well. (My mom is an air, which makes complete sense.) She tried to be resistant for half a second, but it helped her as well. I watched a few women I knew get typed, and embrace their essence (the consultant’s company name, which is perfectly fitting). The transformations were amazing to watch.
I’ve been toying with the idea of learning how to type people…and pulled the trigger on that a couple of weeks ago. I’ve been able to type one of my closest friends (also a fire), and have plans for more. I really hope this helps other people embrace their core the way it helped me.
When we wear colors that don’t suit us best, the colors show. We get compliments on the outfit, or maybe people keep commenting on how tired we look when we think we’re well rested. When we wear the right colors for us, our eyes shine. Our skin looks smoother. And people see US.
Taking it a step further, wearing certain shades within our color palette sets the tone for how we’ll be received. If you want to find out more, message me!
