If you’ve read anything I’ve shared by now, you probably know that some of the rides in the book were inspired by actual rides that me or one of my colleagues took. (95% of the rides that were inspired by real life rides were taken by me or one of my closest friends.)
So, let’s play a little game. I’m going to briefly describe three rides from The Rideshare Chronicles: Volume I and you get to guess which one was based on a ride that I took, that my good friend Mike took, and which one wasn’t even a ride either of us took. I’m not going to share all of the details here…because, well, this is a simple blog post and not an entire chapter of the book!
By the way, if you’re interested in reading a chapter, please reach out to me and I’d be more than happy to send you one, just to check it out.
RIDE ONE:
This is a shared ride where the passengers don’t know each other prior to the trip. A younger man is picked up at a bar and an older woman is picked up at an apartment complex. The woman attempts to engage in a conversation, but the young man is having none of it. She shares with the driver that she is religious and devout and the young man doesn’t have to be like that.
The next thing you know, she shares that her xanny and the alcohol has kicked in. The man is dropped off first, makes a slick comment, and sends the woman into a frenzy. Eventually she dozes off again, only to awaken at a park, where her destination address is.
She is not having any of it. She yells and cusses at the driver to get her home. She starts using gang slang and has a really foul mouth. Eventually, the driver is able to figure out where she lives and get her to the complex.
When they pull up, she shares that she’s about to go sell some drugs and instructs the driver to wait for her.
RIDE TWO:
The driver picks up a couple at a luxury dealership and quickly realizes they are living in an alternate universe. She seems professional and well put together, while he seems like a wanna-be rapper in his mid-thirties.
As the couple gets into it, the driver realizes there is tons of drama between the pair. They reveal a story that sounds like a cheesy spiff of a hood movie. The man has been shot, stabbed, ran over, tased, and more – all by different women.
When they finally make it to their destination, the woman decides to drop the man off and go on about her business. She cries hysterically the entire way to her house because of the mess of a relationship she’s found herself in.
RIDE THREE:
The driver picked up an older man at a nicer hotel on the outskirts of the city in the middle of the night. The driver found it to be strange that the man was simply going to another hotel at that time. He was incredibly grumpy, of small stature, and missing a couple of fingers.
As they pulled out of the property, the man received a phone call from security and requested to go back to pick up a woman. She was noticeably intoxicated with a thick accent. The man tried to guide her to the car and she shrank back against the car, begging the driver not to let him hit her again.
She made a phone call as soon as they got on the freeway to head to the second hotel and began calling the man a monster and throwing accusations around. She was speaking in another language for most of the call, except when she was calling him names. The man begged her to ask whoever she was on the phone with to send for her so she could just go.
The driver didn’t want to jump in, but wasn’t sure what to do in this domestic situation.
So, which ride was inspired by one that I took? That Mike took? Or that wasn’t inspired by a ride at all?
